We should use an with the words starting with vowels a,e,I,o,u where as we can use a with a singular word only

2. "A" is used to denote any singular noun that starts with any of the consonants.

eg: A horse, A girl, A man, A book.

 

Note: We do not use "a" or "an" when we refer to plural nouns.
